calm before the storm

Two consecutive days of sunshine. It may not sound like much, but it's been a major improvement over the prolonged monsoon... like jumping from March to June in one big lunge.

The party will be over soon... already I can feel chilled, moisture weighted air pooling around my ankles from the open window at my back. One, maybe two inches of rain is predicted for tomorrow... a killer for driving to Richmond for the US-New Zea1and international soccer match, and the Folk post-marathon get-together.

Well, nothing's free. It's just payback for having cobalt blue skies, interesting suggestions of good lighting for upcoming photos, top-down, barefoot driving and a chance for confidently loosing some coins for one Friday.

Convertible owners (and those who drive with their windows down) know the charm of being bathed in sooty diesel exhaust from idling next to a truck in traffic... you can swear that there are chunks of debris being spat at you from the tailpipe.

Another good On Air day... minus the presence of the AstroGrrl in the noontime slot. She's an astronomer, 80's Manchester fan, vague Japanese descent... a DJ fantasy for anyone on the other side of the speakers. Attractive and personable. Beats the hell out of bed-haired, hygenically-challenged, narrow-focused music nerds.

At least I don't stink.

Not long after the festivities began, the big head of Jr Dancehall popped in the studio door... supposedly long-gone to Philly for the summer. Already burnt out from his brothers and educating the radio scene.

This cat is the smoothest beat-mxer I've had the pleasure to know, having shared a stage with him on a few paid DJ gigs. Having a hotline to JA for the newest vinyl didn't hurt his style, either.

Two hours dissolved in trash talk and musical rambling. I didn't even hear the playlist go by, though beats and themes meshed. As it should be.

Afterward, stops for sandalwood soap, garlicy hummus, sushi, and info from the Vespa place on what motor to find for the restoration. The next project.

At home, Miss Jane alarmingly pleasant. Hmmmmmmm... and all of her family photos gone from the walls.

We'll see what happens when we get confined by the storms.
