the silence is deafening

like everybody else (and his/her brother/sister) i've been keeping an eye glued to the radar images and beach cams in the Atlantic... feeling bad about what's going to happen to my vacation spot... apprehensive about how the landscape will forever change. One image in particular... a condemned beach house in Ki11 Devi1 Hi11s... one that i passed by numerous times back in August, i knew would be a sitting duck. Hell, the dune was already gone, and it was just a matter of time before the bulldozers knocked it over.

guess it won't have to come to that.

some people keep scoffing at the whole thing... i hope for them they never have to experience the real deal. there's nothing worse than a reformed anything.

silly human nature. foolishly, i looked around for some batteries for the radio and flashlight before coming in to work... i should have saved my energy. there's not a "C" or "D" cell anywhere in the tri-state area.

then, i found out why... gluttony. as if i couldn't imagine. people have been buying cart loads of them (and flashlights)... probably to sell to the panicked. there must be a special circle in hell for the entrepreneur. if there's any justice... well, too bad for them.

i'm just glad that my home sits on a hill. with any luck, the wind will blow the trees away from the house. my mom... i'll worry about. trees galore, overgrown (since my late grandmother wouldn't hear of any living thing cut up or down of thinned or organized) and precariously looming everywhere. best case scenario: me, chainsaw, sweat and mosquitos. and no fatalities.

screw the radio station and the interview, this week. my ass remains home. with batteries shuttled between the weather radio and the camera.

thinking of you too, Pam, and all my seaboard homeslices. this could be a bumpy ride.
