positive ground/negative earth

now, this is just strange.

months ago, i wrote an epic story about the (non) life-threatening abandonment on the early-morning highway, starring the misguided two-seated daughter of Tokyo and myself.

it was a tale of cold, dimming electrics, gauges swinging wildly, and eventual motionlessness. and months of head-scratching to get to the bottom of the problem (which turned out to be the problem of alternator re-manufacturers, after all).

among the casualties in this battle, was the tachometer: after it's final swing backwards, and extinguishing, it has never worked since.

fast forward to yesterday evening.

theDiva and i decided to take a lunchtime ride to the deli, a few miles up the road. all very innocent... but nice to have a curvy, pleasantly conversational female riding co-pilot.

ride over, evening over, i loaded the car to leave for the flat. strapped in, twisted the key, and...

TACHOMETER LIVES!

without weeks of tracing through the maze of schematic diagrams, which usually wind up at dead ends. or upside-down contortions under the dash, following the oft-spliced electrical spaghetti. without a soliloquy of swears and curses, shortening my days, and lengthening my damnation.

now, i wonder... if she rode again, would the paint regenerate?
