six days on the road

for the entire trip westward to Indiana, i'd stripped the XMradio out of the truck, and re-installed it in SlickWillie's van. thirteen-plus hours of hunting for radio stations certainly sucked for last year's trip, and was not going to be repeated.

westward was reserved for the Blues... eastward for honky tonk, late 50's style. which was kind of appropriate, actually...considering the difference in directions. what could have been an ordeal had mile-melting soundtracks... ideal for when the sun went down, and inspiration waned.

so, i have not expired. or lost interest. or have any lack of stories that defined the ten days since i'd slept in my own bed. all of which will be related, in their own time.

i'll just touch on the first day's happenings, abbreviated:

Wednesday: travel day. four hours of sleep before waking as the sun rose. furiously packing the necessities from one vehicle to another. finally, the doors shut, seat belts, clicked. crystal skies and super-real contours of mountain and prairie and unwinding road... first straining west virginia climbs and descents, then flat and vast straightness that was Kentucky and Indiana.
damn, i love to travel.
then came the darkness... a brief stop in Moore'sCrossing in Kentucky for a quick couple of Coronas in an ancient roadhouse, and stories of James Brown. late to the sleeping streets of Indy, crunching gravel in the familiar campground, until hearing a disembodied voice from inside the screened canopy beside the oak, calling for us by name... the only thing visible inside, the cooler festooned with empties.

must be home.

familiar face of Chris, two new ones in Eric and Roger... with amazing tales of their hellish journey. the subject of tomorrow's entry.

right now? i have raspberry-stained fingers and a letter to the FormulaOne administration in London ready to mail.
funny how one person's crappy experience is another's adventure.

i like adventure.

amongst the many misadventures.
